Carrier oAn interview with one of the authors of the book Write correctly in Czech – advice center for crazy proofreaders and the popular series Sins for a crazy proofreader from interval.cz.
How did you actually get to the point where you start doing Czech, so to speak, professionally?
I don’t have a specializ ucation for this, in fact, my profession results from the fact that I spent my entire childhood and youth lying in books (mostly good ones, thank God), so certain language abilities gradually pass into my blood. Thanks to this, I was able to work as a translator for over two years after graduation. Then I join Dalibor, who in the meantime establish a proofreading practice (also after previous translation experience). That was in October 2006, I’ve been a proofreader ever since.
To make it clear to the readers – the book How to write correctly in Czech was written by you and Dalibor Behún. Am I right in assuming you are brothers?
Yes, Dalibor is exactly two years older than me
By mentioning reading, you confirm my opinion that in order to be able to write well, one must first of all read a lot. But I have a question about the ucational process in our schools: do you think that the current system of ucation in the mother tongue is good? Personally, I have the impression that more emphasis is plac on the history of literature, while vocabulary and grammar are rather on the sidelines.
I have to admit that I have a more positive outlook. If I remember, we discuss a lot of interesting and essential things from vocabulary and grammar in Czech lessons. Nevertheless, the history of literature is given a much more prominent place, it is true, but perhaps it is right. After all, the history of literature is a very comprehensive topic.
Of course, but more and more often I observe that people have sometimes even fatal problems with their usa phone number data written expression. Even university graduates are capable of sometimes incrible rudeness. Try to remember: how was your Czech language at school?
Before I get to the question
let’s talk about the rudeness of university students: It’s probably not just about the curriculum, but also about the attitude of the students. Most people neglect those subjects that do not interest them. This is usually not a problem with such chemistry, but as soon as someone neglects Czech, it is a we associate with events to problem, because they will ne it as a chemist, architect, in short, anyone. I had the advantage that I was interest in Czech.
And thanks to the fact that I had it load, there was no problem with dictation: I actually didn’t know cz lists many rules at school, but in short, I “felt internally” how to write, because I “look” at it from books. There’s just one thing you don’t look at: commas. I learn that well later.f advertising messages as soon as possible.
